Jerusalem, MINA – Approximately 80,000 worshipers performed Taraweeh prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque on the fifth night of the holy month of Ramadan, Wednesday evening.

The Islamic Waqf Department in Jerusalem stated that the majority of the worshipers were from the Holy City and from within the 1948 territories, as reported by Quds Press

“The Israeli occupation forces imposed strict military measures on access to Al-Aqsa Mosque, preventing thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank from reaching the mosque,” the report said.

The occupation police deployed additional forces in the occupied city of Jerusalem and around Al-Aqsa Mosque, coinciding with the arrival of Ramadan, to obstruct and restrict worshipers’ access to Al-Aqsa.

In response, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) urged Palestinian Muslims to go to Al-Aqsa Mosque, despite the occupation’s restrictions on access to the mosque during Ramadan. []
