Sudanese President Bans Public Meetings and Protests

Khartoum, MINA – Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir banned public meetings and protests in a series of emergency decisions issued on Monday.

Bashir has been facing the most sustainable anti-government street riots in his 30 years of government.

In a statement issued by the Presidential Palace, Bashir also announced a ban on the trade or stockpiling of subsidized fuel products, as well as new regulations on trading and transporting foreign currencies and gold, Al Jazeera reported.

Bashir, who took office in a 1989 coup, declared on Friday, a year of national emergency to control the rampant protests.

He also dissolved the federal and provincial governments of Sudan as part of a major overhaul of his administration.

However, protests is continuing. Hundreds of demonstrators continued take to the streets and police fired tear gas into the crowd in the capital, Khartoum. (T/Sj/P2)
