911 BECOMES ISLAMIC REVIVAL MOMENTUM IN AMERICA

       Jakarta, 12 Shawwal 1434 / August 19, 2013 (MINA) – Imam of Islamic Center in New York and Director of the Jamaica Muslim Center, Muhammad Syamsi Ali said the 911 tragedy became revival momentum  of Islamic dakwah in the United States.

       According to Syamsi Ali, the resurrection of dakwah is not measured by the quantity and amount, but also measured in terms of the quality of people who converted to Islam and how Muslims can be recognized, either by the US government or by the American people themselves.

       “The 911 became the Islamic revival momentum in America, the development of Islam can not be seen by the amount only, but also from the quality as well,” Ali told to Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) in Jakarta on Saturday (17/8).

        Ali explained that the people who convert to Islam in America these days are those of the well-educated and professional people. They actually learn to find the truth about Islam and Muslims.

       Tragedy on September 11, 2001 which is allegedly associated with Islam that makes Americans want to know the truth. So they are keen to learn Islam and after the know Islam from the right sources, they convert to Islam.

       Most of those who convert to Islam in America are women. He also said the current existence of Islam and Muslims are recognized by the American government and society. This is proven by the presence of Muslims who entered into important official positions in the government.

       “For the first time, members of the Human Rights Commissioner in the White House is a veiled Muslimah who was appointed by President Barack Obama, there are also special ambassadors for Muslim countries. Officials such as ministers level for immigrants or immigrant communities affairs are also Muslims,” said Ali who was born in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi.

        Ali also explained, the most important are those who convert to Islam is no longer the workers, ordinary people and Afro-Americans who converted to Islam after committing a crime, but they are clever people and influential Americans such as researchers, clinicians, students, faculty, politicians, military, and other academics.

       “About four thousand people convert to Islam every year,” said Ali. He is optimistic Islam in America will thrive and become a force for the United States to get better. (T/P05/E1)
