Strive to Reap Benefits of Lailatul Qadr

Bandar Seri Begawan, 21 Ramadan 1437/25 June 2016 (MINA) – Muslims were reminded to increase their taqwa (piety) to Allah SWT in the month of Ramadhan, especially to reap the benefits of Lailatul Qadr.

The Friday sermon said Muslims will soon be entering the last 10 days of Ramadhan in which there is one night that is better than 1,000 months. That is Lailatul Qadr.

“As Muslims, we have to double our efforts to seize the benefits of the night by performing acts of worship as much as possible. It is the night where Allah SWT forgives the sins of those who perform religious deeds with sincerity and towards seeking His blessings,” imams said.

The imams said Lailatul Qadr wasn’t granted to any other ummah (community) except for Prophet Muhammad SAW’s ummah. This was because the previous ummah were granted long lives that allowed them more time to perform acts of worship.

There are many narrations which say that Lailatul Qadr falls during the last 10 nights of Ramadhan, with a high possibility that it will fall on odd nights – either on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th, bt.com. reporting.

Imams said Rasulullah SAW used to practise i’tikaf or confining oneself in a mosque for the purpose of worshipping Allah, in the last 10 nights of Ramadhan.

There are signs of the occurrence of Lailatul Qadr, imams said. The night will be serene and peaceful and neither hot nor cold and these conditions will continue until dawn.

The sermon also described the morning after Lailatul Qadr, when the sun will rise without rays and won’t emit a bright light.

Rasulullah SAW enlivened the nights of Ramadhan with religious deeds, more so compared with other nights, the imams said.

One of the religious deeds that Rasulullah SAW performed in preparation for Lailatul Qadr was i’tikaf.

“Grab this golden opportunity to increase our prayers, zikir and doa (supplications) to Allah SWT to ask for His forgiveness for all the sins that we have committed.   (T/R07/R01)
