Al-Quds, MINA – Hordes of extremist Jewish settlers, escorted by Israeli police, entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem on Thursday morning, while tight restrictions limited access for Muslim worshipers.

Local sources reported that 216 settlers, including 138 students from Jewish institutes, toured the courtyards in groups through the Maghariba Gate, with some performing Talmudic prayers and receiving lectures from rabbis.

Concurrently, Israeli police intensified restrictions at the mosque’s entrances, preventing many Muslim worshipers from entering.

These measures come ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, with recent Israeli orders banning numerous Palestinians from Jerusalem and occupied territories from accessing the site.

In a related context, Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, head of the Higher Islamic Council in Jerusalem, warned against new restrictions imposed by far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir, stating they aim to alter the long-standing status quo at the Islamic holy site.

Sheikh Sabri held the Israeli government fully responsible for any consequences resulting from attempts to change existing arrangements at the mosque.[]
