PROF. JA’ARA RULES OUT POSSIBILITY OF REACHING PEACE TREATY WITH ISRAEL

Nablus, 3 Rabi’ul Awwal 1435/5 January 2014 (MINA) – A Political science professor, Omar Ja’ara ruled out that the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Israel would reach a final agreement during their nine-month peace talks.

He also expressed his belief that the US sponsor is not willing to allow the establishment of a Palestinian state.

“If the US wanted any form of peace, there would be peace even without negotiations, exactly as happened when it had asked the Zionist entity to withdraw from the Sinai Peninsula in 1956, the south of Lebanon in 2000 and Gaza in 2005,” Ja’ara said in a statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC).

“America is the actual weight in the negotiations and the decision-maker of any progress; it is on the Zionist entity’s side, while there is no plenty of elbow room for the Palestinians to move in because everything happening on the ground, including settlement construction and demolitions, is okayed by the Americans,” he explained.

“The Zionist premier Netanyahu is a weak man in the Likud whose government is based on coalitions which are not strong, and he is vulnerable to extortion by leaders of the parties participating in his cabinet, therefore his political position in the future would not be easy if he concluded a final agreement with the Palestinian side,” the professor added.

For its part, the Palestinian resistance committees warned of the framework agreement which US secretary of state John Kerry intends to broker between the Palestinians and Israelis soon and described it as a threat to the Palestinian cause. PIC reported as quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

In a press release on Friday, the committee said that Kerry’s plan is aimed at strengthening Israel’s control over the remaining occupied Palestinian territories in the Jordan Valley, the West Bank and Jerusalem, ending the Palestinian right of return, and eliminating the Palestinian cause.

The committees called on the Palestinian Authority to immediately halt its frivolous talks with the occupation, stressing that the history proved that the peace process had only yielded meager agreements that increased the occupation’s hegemony and aggression. (T/P02/P04)
