Beirut, MINA – The Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad on Saturday congratulated Fatah and Hamas movements on the national reconciliation agreement signed recently in Cairo.

In a press statement released by its general assembly, the Conference said that achieving national unity and recognizing resistance and the right of return for refugees must be at the top of the reconciliation agreement’s agenda, PIC reported.

The Conference pointed to the importance of holding democratic elections for the Palestinian National Council (PNC) that involve the 13 million Palestinians at home and abroad in accordance with the national charter of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The Conference called upon Fatah, Hamas and other Palestinian factions to allow Palestinians abroad to take part in the democratic representation in the PNC, stressing that the only legitimate Palestinian leadership is the one elected by the Palestinian people and thus entitled to represent them until the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.(R/R04/RS5)
