Palestine Holds Business and Investment Workshop in Jakarta

Jakarta, MINA – Palestinian economic delegation held a Business and Investment Workshop attended by Indonesian entrepreneurs in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 24.

The delegation consisted of officials from the Palestinian Ministry of Commerce, Investment, and Investment Agency, Ministry of Industry and Palestinian Chamber of Commerce who introduced the potential of business and investment in Palestine

Jawad Al Muty, Chair of Delegation, as well as an official from the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy said that Palestine is currently trying to improve its economic capabilities, despite many challenges that must be faced.

“There are many things that make Palestinian economy less advanced, such as Israel’s efforts to narrow the space for Palestinian economic movements and other factors that hinder it,” Jawad said in his speech.

He explained that around $ 3.5 billion US of Palestinian money was detained and frozen by Israeli authorities, causing the Palestinians to suffer even more.

Therefore, Palestine is very grateful to Indonesia for providing zero percent import duty for Olives and Palestinian Dates to Indonesia.

He also hoped that other products from Palestine could be immediately given a zero percent rate as well. Currently, around 61 products are being reviewed for zero percent rates.

Meanwhile, Moga Simatupang, Secretary of Directorate General of International Trade Negotiations of Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia hopes that through this workshop, entrepreneurs will get information about the economic potential in Palestine so that they can determine the next steps.

He also said about Indonesian businessmen, Palestinian date products on the Indonesian market were still less competitive with others because the price might be too high. Therefore, he hopes there can be no follow-up, especially in this event. (L/Sj/P2)
