OIC Welcomes Liberation of Raqqa

Jeddah, MINA – The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, has welcomed the liberation of the Syrian city of Raqqa from Daesh, noting the importance of concerted efforts at all levels to combat terrorism, which has become a serious threat to international peace and security, WAM reported.

The General Secretariat of the organisation in a statement reaffirmed its principled position, which condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The Secretariat renewed its unwavering position in supporting peaceful efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis in accordance with the international reference points agreed upon in the Geneva Declaration 1 and the relevant UN resolutions, which stipulated that the territorial integrity of Syria should be maintained.

Raqqa was first seized by IS in 2014 in which the city was declared the so-called caliphate by the group. (T/RS5/RS1)
