Jeddah, MINA – Indonesia has urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take concrete and sustainable action in response to Israel’s ongoing actions in Palestinian territories, including illegal settlement expansion, land annexation, and the killing of Palestinian civilians.
The call was delivered by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta during the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Jeddah on August 27, 2026. Anis attended the forum representing Foreign Minister Sugiono.
In his address, Anis stated that the OIC must strengthen its authority through real and sustained actions, rather than merely issuing condemnations against Israel.
“The OIC must build its organizational credibility, not through condemnations and statements, but through concrete and sustained actions,” he said in an official statement on the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

According to Indonesia, the current situation in the Middle East is critical. The ongoing regional war has also caused widespread impacts beyond the region. Amid these conditions, Indonesia assessed that Israel continues to commit violations of international law, while OIC member states’ attention remains divided due to broader regional conflicts.
“The OIC must maximize its capabilities and mechanisms to hold Israel accountable for its crimes and to categorize the violent acts of illegal settlers as terrorism,” Anis emphasized.
During the session, the OIC also appointed Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed of Mauritania as its Secretary-General for the 2026-2031 term. He succeeds Hissein Brahim Taha of Chad. On the sidelines, Anis held bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and officials from Sudan, Palestine, Qatar, Turkey, and Somalia to discuss bilateral cooperation and shared regional and global issues.[]
