MUSLIM WORLD MUST ACT ON CAR CARNAGE: IRAN MP

French Intervention in Central African RepublicTehran, 26 Rabiul Akhir 1435 / 26 February 2014 (MINA) – An Iranian lawmaker censures the violence against Muslims in the Central African Republic (CAR), calling on the Muslim world to take a swift action to end the genocide in the crisis-hit country.

“Until recently, the Muslim minority and Christian population coexisted with each other in full peace and tranquility in central Africa, but foreigners’ actions, particularly the French, brought the country to a state of civil war,” Deputy Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Mansour Haqiqatpour said on Wednesday.

He warned against the “suspicious current” against the Muslim community across the world and added that violence against Muslims in China, Myanmar and the Central African Republic as well as support for the terrorist Takfiri groups show the West’s will to undermine the Muslims’ power.

He noted that the Majlis national security and foreign policy committee is surveying the situation of Muslims in CAR, according Press TV report quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).

“Statesmen and intellectuals of the Muslim world should not allow extremist Christians to continue the trend of Muslims’ genocide by [taking] a timely action and a resolute stance against these catastrophes,” Haqiqatpour said.

CAR has been facing a deadly crisis since December last year, when Christian militia launched coordinated attacks against the mostly Muslim members of the Seleka group.

The Christian militiamen have been raging violence against the Muslims, many of whom have escaped the country to avoid being killed by the militia.

France deployed its troops in December 2013 after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution giving Paris and the African Union the go-ahead to send troops to the strife-torn country.

Some 2,000 French troops, supported by 6,000-strong African Union force known as MISCA, are currently in the CAR. (T/E01/IR)
