Jakarta, 12 Dzulqa’dah 1437/15 August 2016 (MINA) – In response to public questions about the citizenship status of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Archandra Tahar, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) decided to dismiss with respect Archandra from his position.

The decision of the President Jokowi was delivered by the Secretary of State Pratikno accompanied by the Special Staff of President Johan Budi SP through a press conference at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday (15/8). Official website of the government stated.

According to the State Secretary, President Jokowi appointed Coordinating Minister of Maritime Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as a temporary replacement untill the appointment of new Minister definitive.
Previously, Arcandra become public news related to the status of which is rumored to have dual nationality, while Indonesia does not recognize dual citizenship.

Arcandra himself has declared that he is originally from Padang, West Sumatra. He stated already returned US passport.

However, legal experts asserted, based on citizen Act , dual citizenship is not recognized in Indonesia. If someone becomes a foreign citizen, automatically his Indonesian citizen status rejected.(T / R05 / R03)
