Marocco Requires Young People to Join in Military Service

Rabat, MINA – Marocco requires young people and their youth to take part in military service. The policy was re-imposed for the first time since 2006, according to the announcement of Moroccan Interior Ministry on Monday.

Moroccan young people who have filled out the mandatory military census form number 133,820 people. A total of 13,614 of them (10.17 percent) were girls who registered voluntarily, said the Ministry as quoted from Republik online on Tuesday.

According to the records of 2019 state budget, the total number of women and men ages of 19-25 who will undergo 12 years of military service has reached 40 thousand. The voluntary military service census takes place from 9 April 2019 to 7 June 2019.

The regional committees will hold a series of meetings starting next Monday to complete the list of young people participating in the census and are likely to be summoned for military service, the Ministry said. (T/Sj/R04)
