MAKKAH EMIR HONORS WINNERS OF INTERNATIONAL QUR’AN AWARD

       Makkah, 10 Ramadan 1434/18 July 2013 (MINA) – On behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Makkah Emir Prince Khaled Al-Faisal honored winners of the Sixth International Award for the Service of the Holy Qur’an at a ceremony held Hilton Hotel here, Tuesday evening.

      The function was organized by the Holy Qur’an Memorization International Organization, an affiliate of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), the Saudi Gazette quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

      Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa was chosen as the Personality of the Year in the service of the Holy Qur’an for the Hijri year 1434.

      Prince Khaled presented the award to Sheikh Hamoud Bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to the Kingdom.

      The Emir also distributed prizes to the winners of the International Award for the Service of the Holy Qur’an.

      Speaking on behalf of the winners, Abdullah Al-Barak, Kuwait’s Assistant Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs, commended Saudi Arabia’s key role in the care and service of the Holy Qur’an not only in the Kingdom but also across the world.

      In the event, Prince Khaled and other guests listened to the recitation of the holy book by boy and girl students who had memorized the Qur’an.The prince honored the young memorizers and sponsors of the event.

      He also watched a video film titled “The Message of Light”, which shed light on the organization’s major achievements and activities, including Qur’an competitions, Qur’an learning courses, and provision of scholarships for students attending Qur’an memorization courses.

      Addressing the ceremony, Secretary General of MWL and Chairman of the organizing committee Dr. Abdullah Al-Turki said King Abdullah’s support provides MWL and the organization a major boost in continuing their efforts in the service of Islam and the Holy Qur’an in various parts of the world.

      Dr. Abdullah Basfar, secretary general of the organization, said the award, which stemmed from the organization’s strategic plan, followed the Makkah Excellence Awards launched by Prince Khaled.

      “Winners of this award were chosen by an international panel of scholars and academics in line with the criteria and norms set by the organization,” he added. (T/P09/E1).
