Banda Aceh, 07 Rabi’ul Awwal 1438/07 December 2016 (MINA) – A Kuwaiti-funded school had been spreading a message of hope in the Indonesian city of Banda Aceh.

Part of the “Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad” village, Al-Mubarakiya school, which took its name from the first educational facility built in Kuwait in 1911, had been helping in educating the general populace in Banda Aceh.

The school was built by Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) as part of the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad village which was opened in 2009 on the aftermath of devastating natural disasters hitting the Southeast Asian region in 2004.

Kuwait donated a sum of USD 100 million to help in the relief aid efforts.

A top official in Banda Aceh told KUNA that the school and village helped the people to cope with the earthquake and tsunami which hit the city.

There are around 200 students pursuing education in Al-Mubarakiya school, said the official, adding that the village, which hosts the facility, was home to some 500 families.

The official thanked the Kuwaiti leadership and people for their continuous assistance, affirming that the people of Banda Aceh and Indonesia were grateful to the unconditional Kuwaiti humanitarian gesture. (T/R07/R01)
