Jakarta to Set Up Islamic Museum

Jakarta, 25 Rabiul Akhir 1438/24 Janauary 2017 (MINA) – The Jakarta Islamic Center (JIC) in cooperation with the Islamic Art Museum Louvre of France will set up an Islamic museum in Jakarta as a symbol of Islamic civilization in the capital.

“The museum will have a collection of publications as contributions from various ulemas, including manuscripts or Islamic heritages in Jakarta,” Chief of the Center for Islamic Study and Development at the Jakarta Islamic Center (JIC)  KH Shodri was quoted by Antara as saying in a statement released on Monday.

The museum will reflect the development of Islamic civilization in Jakarta and will hopefully become a picture of Islamic progress in Indonesia, he said.

He further said his side had decided to cooperate with the Islamic Art Museum Louvre of France to build the museum because it had a lot of experience in the management of good museum.

“The museum will serve as a window of knowledge and confirmation of Islamic characteristics in the capital so it must have good governance,” he said.

The construction of the museum which will be built on the JIC compounds will be completed this year, he said.

Chief of social welfare development at the Jakarta social service office, Heri Suhartono expressed the hope that the cooperation with the Islamic Art Museum Louvre of France will be fruitful because it has a lot of experience.

Acting Governor of Jakarta Sumarsono has also expressed his full support to the discourse for the establishment of the Jakarta Islamic Museum.

“In principle, I agree because museum to give an insight to the current generation the roots of Islamic history and we can take the spirit embodied in it, said Sumarsono at the Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday (24/1).(T/RS05/RS01)
