ISRAEL SHOULD ACCEPT PALESTINIAN STATE

Ramallah, 12 Rabiul Awwal 1434/ 24 January 2013 (MINA) – Palestinian Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that the Palestinians “will deal with any Israeli government that abides by the United Nations General Assembly resolution that calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.”

He said that “this is way we will deal with the coming Israeli government, which has to choose between peace and stalemate that can be negative to all parties,” Palestinian news agency WAFA reported as quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) Thursday.

Abu Rudeineh added that “we are ready to work with any government in Israel that accepts the existing international terms of reference that are based on UN resolutions.”

Palestine state with 1967 borders and Jerusalem as it capital

Hamas Leader Khaled Mashaal has said he would accept a Palestine state according to the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as the capital, with the right to return.

Mashaal’s comments are nearly identical to the position on Palestinian statehood taken by his Fatah rival, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Mashaal said he would only recognize Israel once a Palestinian state is created.

“First of all, the offer must come from the attacker, from Israel, which has the arsenal, not from the victim,” Mashaal said that he will not recognize Israel’s right to exist despite claims that he prefers less violence.

“Second, 20 years ago and more, the Palestinians and Arabs are offering peace. But Israel is destroying peace through aggression and war and killing,” Mashaal has been quoted by CNN as saying.

“Either there’s an international will, led by the U.S. and Europe and the international community and force Israel to go through the way of peace and a Palestinian state, according to the border of 1967 with the right to return,” Mashaal went on to say.

“But if Israel can continue to refuse this, either we force them or resort to resistance.”

“Whoever does aggression must pay the price, anywhere in the world, not just from Hamas,” said Mashaal. (T.R-014/R-006)
