Indonesia's Tourism Ministry Wins Several Categories in 2016 China Travel Award : Official

Jakarta, 11 Safar 1438/11 November 2016 (MINA) – A senior official at Indonesia’s tourism ministry said that the ministry had won several categories contended in 2016 China Travel Award with trophy handover ceremony being scheduled on Nov. 15 in Shanghai, China.

“We have already been acknowledged about that through the official invitation, notifying that Indonesia has won in several categories. I hope this would benefit Indonesia’s tourism sector, particularly in the efforts to cope with over 20 million foreign visitors target by 2019,” Xinhua quoted Ukus Kuswara, the Secretary General of Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry, as saying in a statement released on Thursday.

Ukus said the award is very meaningful as it is provided by China, said Ukus, adding that he would depart for Shanghai to directly receive the award there.

According to Ukus, the award is a result from persistent efforts by Indonesian officials, including the president himself, in promoting Indonesia’s tourism abroad.

Despite the fact that Indonesia has more cultural attractions and more complete natural tour destinations, Indonesia only secured 10.5 million foreign visitors, while Thailand and Malaysia secured 28 million and 24 million respectively last year.

Indonesia has made tourism sector as its core business, hoping to earn more than 24 billion U.S. Dollars by 2019.

To attain the target Indonesia is now developing 10 new tour destinations across the nation, designed to par with resort island of Bali. (T/R07/R01)
