INDONESIA AND MUSLIM WORLD LEAGUE HOLD THE 3RD INTL CONFERENCE ON ISLAMIC MEDIA

        Jakarta, 29 Muharram 1434 /3 Desember 2013 (MINA) – Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister, Suryadharma Ali officially opened the 3rd International Conference on Islamic Media themed “Media and Social Responsibility” which are followed by representatives of international media in Jakarta, Tuesday.

         The conference which is held by the International Islamic Organization of Media (IIOOM) of the Muslim World League (MWL) in cooperation between the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, attended by information and media representatives from Islamic countries such as Bahrain , Egypt , Morocco , Algeria , Sudan , Tunisia , Nigeria , Senegal , Zambia, Malaysia, Brunai, Macedonia and Indonesia.

        In his speech , the minister hoped, the conference is going to create communication and networking to strengthen Islamic brotherhood and global cooperation.

        In addition , Suryadharma Ali also expected that the Islamic media could deliver Islamic humanitarian messages to improve welfare of the international community and reduce poverty in the world.

       “Muslims should be smart, selective and critical while receiving an information. Don’t forget ‘tabayyun’ (to check and recheck) the information as commanded by A-Qur’an,” said the Minister in front of Islamic media representatives from various countries including Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) of Indonesia.

       Meanwhile, the Secretary General of Muslim World League (Rabithah Alam Islami), Dr . Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Turki said this conference is aimed to establish a media that can unite all of Islamic media and takes place in Indonesia.

         The Muslim World League was founded by Muslim religious figures from 22 states in accordance with a resolution adopted during the meeting of the General Islamic Conference, which was held in Holy Makkah on the 14th of Dhul Hijjah 1381 Hijra corresponding to the 18th May 1962.

       The Muslim World League is an international non governmental Islamic organization based in the Holy City of Makkah.  It is engaged in propagating the religion of Islam, elucidating its principles and tenets, refuting suspicious and false allegations made against the religion. The League also strives to persuade people to abide by the commandments of their Lord, and to keep away from prohibited deeds.

        The League is also ready to help Muslims solve problems facing them anywhere in the world, and carry out their projects in the sphere of Da’wa, education and culture. The League, which employs all means that are not at variance with the Sharia (Islamic law) to further its aims, is well known for rejecting all acts of violence and promoting dialogue with the people of other cultures.
