INDONESIAN GROUP BAND SHOWS ITS SUPPORT FOR PALESTINE

Jakarta,  15 Jumadil Awwal 1435/16 March 2014 (MINA) –   Indonesian pop music group, Naif Band, shows its solidarity with Palestinian by taking part in  a fund raising campaign called  “50 thousand  rupiah for Palestine” campaign.

On the sidelines of  Indonesian Art Festival in  Jakarta, Saturday night (15/3),   the band  shot a video scene  for the fund campaign aimed at supporting the procurement of the health equipments in Indonesian Hospital in Gaza for Gazans.

The band formed on October 22, 1995 at the Jakarta Arts Institute (IKJ) with its members consisting of David (vocals), Emil (bass), Jarwo / Mr. J (guitar) and Pepeng (drums).

For David, the vocalist, it’s a pleasure to give more than to receive. “Because they (Palestinians) are in lots of needs. Indeed, the purpose of our lives is to fulfill  other needs, making them complete, ” he said.

“When the war happens, I feel that this will continue,”  David added.

His partner, Emil said that there is no reason for refusing to get involved in the campaign to support Indonesian Hospital in Gaza.

“It’s  for humanitarian aids.  Especially in the country which is still  under occupation by Israel, ‘for saving one man is equal to saving the entire human race’,” he said quoting a verse in Al-Quran.

He added that what his band done through this campaign is not a big deal for helping Palestinians.

“Personally, this is just a piece that we can do for the Palestinians and humanity,” he said.

Naif itself is a band that has frequently involved in social activities for victims  such as natural disasters and environmental conservation.

Indonesia Hospital in Gaza was built by the volunteers from Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C). The  Indonesian non-governmental organisation has collected nearly $15 million from Indonesia’s poor and rich alike to build the first Indonesian hospital in the Gaza Strip. The hospital, which will serve those Palestinians living in northern Gaza, is nearly finished and still awaiting some equipments before it starts receiving patients. It is due for completion in May.

Indonesian Hospital building has been completed and entered the finishing stage of procurement of medical equipment to be immediately operated.

The Health Ministry of the Hamas-led government in Gaza and Indonesia’s MER-C signed a memorandum of understanding on 21 November 2011 stipulating the financing of the hospital. (L/P03/E01)
