Indonesia Refuses US Recognition on Golan

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesia rejected the recognition of Golan Heights as part of Israel. This recognition was in the decree signed by President of the United States (US), Donald Trump on Monday.

“This recognition is not conducive to efforts to create peace and regional stability,”Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a press statement on Tuesday.

Indonesia still recognizes Golan Heights as an inseparable part of the sovereignty of Republic of Syria which is currently occupied by Israel after the 1967 war.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Indonesia’s current position is based on the principles in the UN Charter concerning respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country, as well as various elements contained in Security Council resolutions related to Golan Heights, including Resolution 242 (1967), 338 (1973) and 497 (1981).

The resolution contained a rejection of the acquisition of an area that was carried out by force. withdrawal of Israeli forces from Golan Heights region.

Then, the rejection of Israel’s legal jurisdiction over Golan Heights and assertion that Israel’s move to occupy Golan Heights is illegitimate and does not have effect of international law.

Indonesia then urged the international community to continue to respect international law and the UN charter and continue to be guided by the United Nations Resolutions related to promoting the peace process in Middle East. (T/Sj/P2)
