: Increased Capability of Defense Industry important for Self-Sufficiency.VP Says
Jakarta, MINA – Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla, has expressed the hope that the defense industry exhibition “Indo Defense 2018 Expo & Forum” would be useful to improve the progress and capabilities of the domestic defense industry.
Jusuf Kalla noted this when opening the defense industry exhibition “Indo Defense 2018 Expo & Forum”, at the JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Wednesday (7/11).
The Indonesian Vice President further said, as in Indonesia’s previous experience, Indonesia has experience of being embargoed in the 90s, how difficult it was for Indonesia to obtain the main tool of the weapon system (Alutsista) because of the embargo.
For this reason, Indonesia must be ready to be independent of its own capabilities, in addition to establishing cooperation with other countries.
“I hope that Indo Defense also shows us all the comparisons of capabilities that exist and certainly enhances cooperation and also how to build a good defense industry in the country,” said the Vice President.
The implementation of the Indo Defense exhibition is expected to be useful to provide knowledge on the extent of technological advances in the future and present, and to know what is needed today.
In addition, we also know the capabilities of the defense industry, many military research is actually useful for civil progress.
The capability of the defense industry and defense research of a country is also useful for the progress of society.
As an example of progress in the field of the internet that started from military research for military capabilities which later became something that was so useful for everyone today. Likewise, containers initially began for the needs of war, then became part of the progress of trade in this world.
The exhibition which was attended by 867 companies from 60 countries lasted for four days, starting November 7-10 2018.
The exhibition has been held for the eighth time in conjunction with the aerospace and helicopter exhibition, Indo Aerospace featuring Indo Helicopter 2018 Expo & Maritime Forum Exhibition, and Marine 2018 Expo & Forum.
The Defense Expo is a promotional event for international defense and security equipment producers which holds every two years by the Ministry of Defense in collaboration with PT Napindo Media Ashatama as a forum to strengthen the capacity of the local defense industry by building partnerships with foreign parties.
