AL AQSHA MOSQUE IMAAM VISITS UNTIRTA BANTEN

       Banten, 17 Ramadan 1434 / 26 July 2013 (MINA) – One of Al-Aqsa Mosque Imaams Prof. Dr. Sheikh Muhammad Mahmoud Shiyam visited University of  Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (Untirta) Banten, on Thursday (25/7).

       In his speech before ifthar, Sheikh Shiyam, which was one of the great Imaams in Al-Aqsa in the 1980’s, expressed his appreciation for the effort from the Untirta Rector Prof. Sholeh Hidayat who has changed the college with Islamic environment.

       “Although this is public university, but we can see the Islamic environment here, from alif to ya,” Sheikh Shiyam said, who was expelled from Palestine by Israel because he was considered as a Palestinian leader for struggle movement.

       According to him, general sciences and technology as taught in Untirta needs to be deepened by the next generation of students as part of the development of nation.

       Science such as health, education, engineering, economics, are parts of the teachings of Islam which is very beneficial for ummat, he said in front of hundreds of worshipers in Masjid Sheikh Nawawi Al Bantani.

       “That’s why the students must study hard with the intention of worship and for Islamic struggle,” said the First Rector of Islamic University of Gaza, as translated by Yakhsyallah Mansur, Head of Al-Fatah Boarding School, Bogor, West Java.

       Meanwhile Untirta Rector Prof. Sholeh Hidayat in his speech reveals a sense of happiness and gratitude because he had an honor of being visited by one of Palestinian clerics.

       “It’s an honor for us to receive visit from Sheikh Shiyam, we hope it will encourage the spirit of struggle for the academicians and the public around the campus in studying Islam and science technology,” he said.

       According to him, the academic community in Untirta and Indonesia provide support for the Palestinian struggle for independence and the liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque from Israeli occupation.

         “I myself, and of course, we as Muslims are eager to pray at Al-Aqsa mosque in congregation, because the Al-Aqsa mosque is the center of the struggle,” said Prof. Sholeh Hidayat.

         On this occasion, Sheikh Shiyam gave Prof Sholeh Hidayat a gift of scarf as a symbol of love and the struggle for the liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the independence of Palestine.

         According to the visit organizer, Aang Gunawan, Sheikh Shiyam has been visiting some places around Indonesia and Malaysia in an effort to garner Muslim unity in the struggle for the liberation of Al-Aqsa and Palestine.

         In the event, there was also a signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between Rector Untirta Banten with Editor in Chief of MINA (Mi’raj News Agency) in the field of media, journalism training and information exchange in Islamic world. (L/P05/R1/E1).
