Friday Sermon: Prepare Ourselves for Hearafter Life

First Sermon

إن الحمد لله نحمده ونستعينه ونستغفره ونعوذ بالله من شرور أنفسنا وسيئات أعمالنا من يهده الله فلا مضل له ومن يضلل فلا هادي له

الحمد لله رب العالمين القائل: قل ان الموت الذي تفرون منه فانه ملقيكم ثم تردون الى عالم الغيب والشهادة فينبئكم بما كنتم تعملون

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلهَ إِلاّ اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنّ مُحَمّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُوْلُهُ

صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وأصحابه ومن سار على نهجه القويم ودعا إلى الصراط المستقيم إلى يوم الدين وسلم تسليما كثيرا

أما بعدُ

فيا عباد الله أوصيكم وإيّاي نفسي بتقوى الله حقّ تقاته فقد فاز المتقون.

Ladies and Gentlemen

God willing, we are always under the auspices of the grace and guidance of Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala

We will endlessly pray, praise, and thank God for giving us the blessings of faith and Islam, a very big gift that Allah bestowed upon His servants. May we always be among those who get His guidance and in a state of faith and Islam until the end of our lives.

And of course we thank Allah for the blessings of life that is still given to us. So that on this occasion we can still worship Him, remember Him, and praise Him.

A compliment is only worthy of God. Alhamdulillah, all praise belongs only to Allah. It really is not appropriate for humans to expect praise, it is not appropriate for humans to feel they have meritorious, because truly all praise belongs only to Allah.

And we invite ourselves and all worshipers to continue to strengthen devotion to Allah SWT.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسُِْْ

It means: “O you who believe, fear Allah truly in His piety and do not ever die but in a state of Muslim religion. ” (Al-Quran, Surah Ali Imran, verse 102)

And of course, blessings and greetings may always be unceasingly poured on the Prophet Muhammad and his family and friends.

n this short Friday Sermon, let us ponder for a moment about something that we are certain to face, something that is the gateway from the life of the world to the hereafter, namely death.

In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 28, Allah says:
كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَكُنْتُمْ اَمْوَاتًا فَاَحْيَاكُمْۚ ثُمَّ يُمِيْتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيْكُمْ ثُمَّ اِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ

How do you deny Allah, even though you (were) dead, then He brought you to life, then He killed you and then He brought you back. Then to Him you are returned.

In the Tafsir of Ibn Kathir, It is explained that this verse explains the power of Allah and it is strange that people who disbelieve in Allah while humans are not there, then Allah made it on this earth.

This verse also shows that we all must die. And we will all be resurrected after that death.

So, what are our obligations in life to prepare ourselves before death? Of course, there are many things. But there are at least three things that we will discuss on this valuable opportunity.

First, do your best

In the Quran, Allah says in the Surah Al-Mulk verses 1-2:

تَبٰرَكَ الَّذِيْ بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُۖ وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌۙ

Glory be to Allah who rules over (all) kingdoms, and He is almighty over all things. (1)

الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُورُ

Who created death and life, to test you, who among you is better in charity. And He is Almighty, Most Forgiving. (2)

What are the best practices like? One indicator is that the work is carried out with istiqamah (continously). In the authentic hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, Rasulullah SAW said:

فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الْعَمَلِ أَدْوَمُهُ وَإِنْ قَلَّ

That is; actually the best work is routine (ongoing), even though it is a little.

Charity as good as possible also means that the work we do is as sincere as possible, as much as possible and as perfectly as possible. Both in our interactions with God and with our fellow human beings, in each of our deeds, we express in ourselves that it could be our final charity.

Secondly, prepare a charity that continues to flow merit

Among those we can prepare is to increase the number of charities, knowledge that is useful, and educate our children to become pious children who can pray for us later. As the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad.

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه: أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ((إذا مات الإنسان انقطع عنه عمله إلا من ثلاثة: إلا من صدقة جارية, أو علم ينتفع به, أو ولد صالح يدعو له)); رواه مسلم

It means: narrated by Abu Hurairah, that Rasulullah Shalallahu alaihi wasallam said, “If people die, then their deeds will be cut off except for three cases, almsgiving, knowledge taken, and righteous children who always pray for their parents.” (HR. Muslim).

Third, pray that Husnul Khatimah (good death) be given

Is that Husnul Khatimah? Among the main signs husnul khatimah is when he says the phrase “laa ilaaha illallaah” at the end of his life. In a sahih hadith narrated by Abu Dawud, Rasulullah Shalallahu alaihi wasallam said:

“مَنْ كَانَ آخِرُ كَلاَمِهِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ”

“Whoever ends his words is‘ Laa ilaaha illallaah ’then he will enter the Heaven.”

Another indicator of someone who is husnul khatimah if he is doing good work at the end of his life.

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم “إذا أراد الله بعبد خيرا استعمله”. فقيل كيف يستعمله يا رسول الله قال “يوفقه لعمل صالح قبل الموت” ”

Rasulullah Shalallahu alaihi wasallam said: “If Allah wants goodness to someone, then Allah will make him do good.” Friends ask; “How to make charity?” he replied: “Allah will give taufiq to him to carry out good deeds before he dies.” (Narrated by Ahmad and Tirmidhi)

In addition to trying with all our good deeds to attain Husnul Khatimah, we must also pray that Allah gives us this privilege. One of the prayers to ask husnul khatimah is as taught by the Prophet Joseph, which is recorded in the surah Yusuf verse 101:

فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَنتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ۖ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا ََََََََََََََِِِِِِِِِِِِِِِِّّّّ

It means: (O Lord), the creator of the heavens and the earth, You are my protector in this world and in the hereafter, please make me in a Muslim state and join me with a pious person.

بَارَكَ اللهُ لِي وَلَكُمْ فِي الْقُرْآنِ الْعَظِيْمِ، وَنَفَعَنِي وَإِيَّاكُمْ بِمَا فِيْهِ مِنَ الآيَاتِ وَالذِّكْرِ الْحَكِيْمِ. أَقُوْلُ قَوْلِي هذَا وَاَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ لِي وَلَكُمْ وَلِسَائِرِ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوْهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ.

Second Sermon

Attendances of Friday Prayer blessed by Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala

As Muslims, we should always remember that our lives in this world are only temporary. Happiness and sadness are parts of this life that we must live with faith.

Allah SWT said:

اعلموا انما الحيوة الدنيا لعب ولهو وزينة وتفاخر بينكم وتكاثر فى الاموال والاولاد كمثل غيث اعجب الكفار نباته ثم يهيج فترىه مصفرا ثم يكون حطاما وفى الاخرة عذاب شديد ومغفرة من الله ورضوان وما الحيوة الدنيآ الا متاع الغرور

“Know, in fact the life of the world is only a game and a joke, jewels and proud of each other and competing in wealth and offspring, like rain which plants impress the farmers; then (the plant) becomes dry and you see the color is yellow and then it is destroyed. And in the hereafter (later) there is a harsh punishment and forgiveness from Allah and His good pleasure. And world life is nothing but fake pleasure. ”

However, Allah also reminds us in Surah Al-Qasas verse 77:

وابتغ فيمآ اتىك الله الدار الاخرة ولا تنس نصيبك من الدنيا واحسن كمآ احسن الله اليك ولا تبغ الفساد فى الارض ان الله لا يحب المفسدين

“And seek (reward) the afterlife with what Allah has bestowed upon you, but do not forget your part in the world and do good (to others) as God has done good to you, and do not do damage on earth. Truly, Allah does not like those who do damage.

Finally, hopefully someday we belong to Allah’s servants who can do good deeds throughout our lives, die in a state of husnul khatimah, and have the opportunity to meet Him in heaven later.

فَيَااَ يُّهَاالنَّاسُ !! اِتَّقُوا اللهَ تَعَالىَ. وَذَرُوالْفَوَاحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ منها وَمَا بَطَنَ. وَحَافِظُوْا عَلىَ الطَّاعَةِ وَحُضُوْرِ الْجُمْعَةِ وَالْجَمَاعَةِ. وَاعْلَمُوْا اَنَّ اللهَ اَمَرَكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ بَدَأَ فِيْهِ بِنَفْسِهِ. وَثَنَّى بِمَلاَئِكَةِ قُدْسِهِ. فَقَالَ تَعَالىَ وَلَمْ يَزَلْ قَائِلاًعَلِيْمًا

اِنَّ اللهَ وَمَلاَئِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّوْنَ عَلىَ النَّبِىْ يَاَ يُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ آمَنُوْا صَلُّوْا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوْا تَسْلِيْمًا

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَجِيْدٌ. وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَجِيْدٌ

اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُسْلِمِيْنَ وَالمسْلِمَاتِ وَالمؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالمؤْمِنَاتِ الأَحْيَاءِ مِنْهُمْ وَالأَمْوَاتِ إِنَّكَ سَمِيْعٌ قَرِيْبٌ مُجِيْبُ الدَّعْوَةِ

اللهُمَّ ادْفَعْ عَنَّا اْلبَلاَءَ وَاْلوَبَاءَ وَالزَّلاَزِلَ وَاْلمِحَنَ وَسُوْءَ اْلفِتْنَةِ وَاْلمِحَنَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ عَنْ بَلَدِنَا اِنْدُونِيْسِيَّا خآصَّةً وَسَائِرِ بُلْدَانِ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ عآمَّةً يَارَبَّ اْلعَالَمِيْنَ

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ الهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالعَفَافَ وَالغِنَى

. رَبنا أَدْخِلْنا مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنا مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَلْ لنا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ سُلْطَانًا نَصِيرًا

اللَّهُمَّ أَحْسِنْ عَاقِبَتَنَا فِى الأُمُورِ كُلِّهَا وَأَجِرْنَا مِنْ خِزْىِ الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابِ الآخِرَةِ

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

وَصَلَّى اللهُ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِيْنَ.سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ

الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُوْنَ. وَسَلاَمٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ. وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.

عباد الله، إن الله يأمر بالعدل والإحسان وإيتاء ذي القربى وينهى عن الفخشاء والمنكر والبغي يعظكم لعلكم تذكرون. فاذكروا الله العظيم يذكركم واشكروه على نعمه يزدكم وادعوه يستجب لكم ولذكر الله أكبر.
