Havana, MINA – Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio said in an interview on Sunday that his country is preparing for the possibility of a US military aggression.
“Our military is always ready, and in fact, at this moment, is preparing for the possibility of military aggression. We would be naive if we did not see what is happening around the world,” said Fernandez de Cossio.
While expressing hope that such an invasion would not materialize, he added that there would be no justification for it whatsoever.
“Why would the United States government compel its country to take military action against a neighboring country like Cuba?” he further questioned.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Cuba’s leadership has proven incapable of addressing the country’s nationwide blackouts and that the island needs new leadership to do so.
“Cuba has a non-functioning economy, and a political and governing system that is incapable of fixing it, so they need to change drastically,” Rubio told reporters at the White House.
The United States and Cuba have been adversaries for 65 years, but the Trump administration has significantly intensified pressure from Washington.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said last week that officials from Washington and Havana have held direct talks in an effort to resolve their differences.[]
