ASHRAWI URGES EUROPEANS TO END ISRAELI OCCUPATION

Ramallah, 30 Safar 1434/12 January 2013 (MINA) – Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee member, Hanan Ashrawi, urged the European Union to put a quick end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

Ashrawi stressed in a meeting in Ramallah with EU representative to the West Bank, Gaza Strip and UNRWA, John Gatt-Rutter, “the importance of the European role in supporting the two-state solution and in bringing about an end to the illegal occupation of Palestine and Israel’s stepped-up illegal settlement campaign before it is too late.”

The two officials discussed ideas to that effect and steps relevant to Palestine in its accession to UN charters and conventions and Palestine joining UN agencies and organizations, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA report received by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), Saturday.

In addition, Ashrawi told a Canadian delegation representing the National Democratic Party that “despite Canada’s official position in support of Israel and a negative vote in the UN, we will not give up on Canada.”

She said, “We believe what is required is an even-handed approach in support of a just peace consistent with international and humanitarian law.” (T/R-015/R-006).
