Arab Quartet to Hold Meeting Monday on Israeli Settlements

Caior,19 Rabi’ul Awwal 1438/19 December 2016 (MINA) – The Arab Quartet on the Peace Process will hold a meeting at the ministerial level here on Monday at the Arab League headquarters to discuss the necessary steps to submit a draft resolution at the UN Security Council, condemning Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories.

Palestine’s Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative at the Arab League Jamal Shobaki said the meeting, which comes after a previous consultation meeting, will discuss a draft resolution to be submitted to the Security Council in the coming days in order to adopt a UN resolution denouncing the settlements and stressing the need for their cessation as well as demanding an end to the Israeli occupation within a defined timetable to bring about the two-state solution, IINA News reported.

Ambassador Shobaki expressed his confidence that the decision would get the required majority vote of nine members, while ensuring that the right of vote is not used, especially by the United States.(T/P008/R07)
