ANTI-COUP BLOC PLANS ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE EMBASSIES ON MORSI TRIAL

Cairo, 22 Dhul Hijja 1434/26 October 2013 (MINA) – An alliance backing ousted President Mohamed Morsi is planning a series of activities outside Egyptian embassies and consulates on November 4, when the deposed leader stands trial on violence charges.

In a Friday statement, the National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy said the activities will be held outside Egyptian diplomatic missions to reject the military coup and “boost Morsi’s steadfastness”.

The pro-democracy bloc, however, gave no details about the planned activities.

Morsi, Egypt’s first democratically-elected president, will stand trial along with 14 others on charges of inciting the murder of protesters outside Cairo’s Ittihadiya presidential palace late last year.

Pro-Morsi demonstrators staged fresh rallies on Friday in protest against military overthrow of Morsi, whom they describe as a military coup. The world bulletin media reported monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

Held under the banner “Suez Steadfastness: Our Way to Jerusalem”, Friday’s protests were marred by minor clashes, which left several demonstrators slightly injured.

The pro-democracy bloc lauded the resilience of the Egyptian people against what it called the “bloody military coup”.

Morsi supporters have been staging almost daily rallies since the Islamist leader was removed from power by the powerful military on July 3 following mass protests against his administration. (T/P09).
