Al AZHAR, CAIRO FIRES THE RECTOR
Cairo, 23 Jumadil Awal 1434/4 April 2013 (MINA) – The Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Ahmad Thayyib, fired rector of Al-Azhar University , Osama El-Abd and its three rector assistants on Wednesday (3/4). This decision was made in order to meet the demands of protesting students.
According to Mi’raj News Agency (MINA)‘s correspondent in Cairo Ahmad Thayyib will perform new rector’s inauguration in a few days later.
Al Azhar students has been protesting since Tuesday night (2/4) in case of food poisoning that afflicted many Egyptian students when they were eating in the campus cafeteria.
“The president Mohamed Mursi visited the poisoned students in Iskan tullab and Madinah Nasr, the location where they live in,” said Noveri.
Right now, about 500 poisoned students were admitted to Ta’amin Sihhi hospital. The local police still investigate the case.
“Last night, they gathered in front of the dormitory to demand attention of the rector related to this issue,” Noveri added.
On Tuesday, the road to dormitory in Hayyu sadist and Al-Azhar University in Madinah Nasr was closed and controlled by the protester students. The action was taken to urgent execution dismissal of the rectors.
“Their demands, today is realized, the Rector of Al-Azhar Osama El-Abd and its three assistants is fired. Instead, the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmad Thoyyib will take over the new inaguration in the next few days,” said Noveri. (L/K11/P04/P03)
