AL AQSA MOSQUE IMAM SABRI FORBIDS ISRAELI CITIZENSHIP

Al-Quds, Jerusalem, 8 Rabiul Awwal 1434/20 January 2013 (MINA) – Sheikh Ekrema Sabri, the Imam and preacher at the Aqsa mosque, said that obtaining an Israeli citizenship was religiously forbidden, a report published in the Palestinian website www.alresalah.ps quoted Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) Sunday morning as saying.

He explained in his Friday congregation sermon that the battle against the Israeli occupation was partly demographic and thus acquiring the Israeli citizenship would support occupation and weaken the position of Jerusalemites.

Sabri said that Palestinians living in 1948 occupied Palestine were obliged to acquire the Israeli citizenship due to their conditions especially when Islamic jurisprudence’s “Law of Necessity” makes the forbidden permissible.

The Sheikh then lashed out at the Israeli occupation authorities for the one month long siege on Aissawiye village, north of occupied Jerusalem, and the repeated raids on it.

He finally hailed the activists who established Bab Eshams village as a new kind of peaceful protest against the IOA land grab and “cancerous settlement drive”. (T/R-022/R-006)
