AFP Experts Enhance Footage of Suspects in Indonesian Acid Attack on Novel Baswedan

Novel Baswedan suffered injuries in the face, but in a conscious and stable condition.

Jakarta, MINA – Indonesian authorities say they have made progress on a notorious unsolved crime thanks to help from the Australian Federal Police, abc.net.au. reported Saturday morning,

AFP technical experts have helped enhance CCTV footage of the suspected attackers of the Indonesia’s top anti-corruption investigator.

Novel Baswedan was badly injured in April when attackers on a motorcycle threw a vial of acid in his face.

“The CCTV images were not high definition and we needed foreign expertise and technical cooperation,” Jakarta police chief Idham Azis said.

Police say the cleaned-up images represent a significant development in the case, and they have urged the public to turn in the suspects.

He was transferred to Singapore for surgery after the attack and has not returned to Indonesia.

KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo thanked the AFP for its help.

“On behalf of the institution and also personally, I really appreciate this effort and really, really hope that the perpetrators of the crime will be captured shortly. Let’s pray for that,” he said.

The KPK this week arrested one of the nation’s most senior politicians — parliament Speaker Setya Novanto — the alleged bagman in the theft of $220 million from an electronic ID card project. (T/RS5/RS1)
