Jakarta, MINA – The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD DKI Jakarta) reported that two neighborhood units (RTs) in Pesanggrahan Subdistrict, South Jakarta, were flooded following heavy rain that hit the capital and its surrounding areas on Saturday.

Head of BPBD DKI Jakarta’s Data and Information Center, Mohamad Yohan, said water levels in the affected area reached around 50 centimeters.

“This flooding was caused by heavy rainfall that occurred across Jakarta and nearby regions,” he said in Jakarta on Sunday.

According to Yohan, the high-intensity rain since the afternoon caused drainage channels to overflow, leading to water inundating residential areas. However, there have been no reports of casualties or residents being displaced.

BPBD Jakarta, together with local authorities, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the National Police (Polri), have been conducting on-site monitoring and rapid response efforts.
Officers have also deployed water pumps at several inundated points to help reduce flooding.

“Teams remain on standby to monitor developments in the field. We also urge residents to stay alert for possible additional flooding, as Jakarta’s weather is still forecasted to bring moderate to heavy rain,” Yohan added.

Based on BPBD Jakarta’s latest data, floodwaters still covered parts of Pesanggrahan as of Saturday night.
The agency expressed hope that weather conditions would improve soon so the water could recede and residents’ activities could return to normal.[]
