Vietnamese Pilgrims Leave for UAE-Sponsored Hajj Mission

Vietnamese hajj pilgrims  pose together before departing to the Holy Land of Makkah

Hanoi, Vietnam, MINA – The UAE Embassy in Vietnam has overseen the departure of a group of Vietnamese Muslim Hajj pilgrims, who have been sponsored by the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, as part of its efforts to help Muslims fulfil the mandatory pillar of Islam.

The pilgrims departed from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Ho Chi Minh, early morning on Thursday to perform Hajj, as per a programme to visit the holy sites in Makkah and Medina until 24th September, WAM reported.

The UAE Embassy in Hanoi, in co-operation with the UAE charities, has been carrying out yearly pilgrimage missions, as part of many humanitarian missions in Vietnam.

Muslims are the minority in this predominately Buddhist and Socialist State.

Islam was introduced to Vietnam by the merchants and travelers from the Middle East, Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan who sailed along the coastal lines and at the same time spread the teachings of Islam to the local people there.

These foreign visitors married Vietnamese partners and naturally settled in this new land and very soon, a second generation of Muslims was already evolving in Vietnam. (T/RS5/RS!)
