US Transfers Two Gitmo Prisoners to Serbia

Washington, 07 Syawal 1437/12 July 2016 ((MINA) – The Pentagon announced Monday that two prisoners at Guantanamo Bay have been transferred to the Government of Serbia.

They were identified as Muhammadi Davlatov of Tajikistan and Mansur Ahmad Saad Al-Dayfim of Yemen, KUNA reported.

“The United States is grateful to the Republic of Serbia for offering humanitarian resettlement to two individuals formerly in US custody,” Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement.

“This significant humanitarian gesture is consistent with Serbia’s leadership on the global stage,” he added.

The Guantánamo prisoners were rounded up overseas when the US became embroiled in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq following the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
