Jakarta, MINA – The latest update from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reports that 867 people have died and 521 remain missing following the massive flash floods and landslides that struck three provinces in Sumatra—Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

In its official report released Friday afternoon, BNPB stated that the total number of fatalities has reached 867, an increase of 31 deaths in less than 24 hours.

During an earlier press briefing on Thursday, BNPB’s Head of the Center for Data, Information, and Disaster Communication, Abdul Muhari, reported that the death toll at that time stood at 836.

“I would like to report that as of this afternoon, the number of confirmed fatalities has increased to 836,” Abdul Muhari said during a virtual press conference on Thursday.

BNPB recorded that Aceh Province has suffered the most severe impact, with the highest number of deaths. A total of 48 additional bodies were discovered in Aceh.

“This increase is mostly from Aceh Province. Today, 48 victims were found, bringing the total number of deaths in Aceh to 325,” he said.

However, based on BNPB’s updated report released Friday at 18:00 WIB, fatalities in Aceh rose again to 345, with 174 people still missing and injuries reaching 3,500.

Overall, BNPB reported that a total of 521 individuals remain missing and more than 4,200 people have been injured across the three provinces. Abdul emphasized that the search for victims will continue indefinitely until all reports are accounted for.

“BNPB will continue searching for those reported missing until further notice,” he stressed.

Of the 18 districts and cities affected in Aceh at the end of November 2025, four regions were reported to have had no fatalities or missing persons.

According to Abdul Muhari, the disaster across the three provinces has resulted in 4,200 injuries. In addition, 849,123 residents have been displaced. The displaced include 775,346 people in Aceh, 51,433 in North Sumatra, and 22,354 in West Sumatra.

Abdul added that the government continues to push the distribution of aid to the displaced communities.

The largest number of evacuees are located in Aceh Tamiang, totaling 281,300 people, followed by East Aceh with 163,400 and North Aceh with 115,000 evacuees. Abdul reiterated that the government is maintaining support for affected residents.

“For the delivery of logistics to affected communities, we continue to use three modes of transport: sea, land, and air,” he explained.

BNPB has urged the public to remain vigilant for potential secondary disasters as heavy rainfall is still expected in several areas across Sumatra. Meanwhile, joint teams from the military, police, the national search and rescue agency , and volunteers continue to conduct search, evacuation, and relief distribution operations.[]
