UN RESOLUTION BACKS PALESTINIAN SELF-DETERMINATION

Jerusalem 9 Shafar 1433/22 December 2012  (Ma’an/MINA) – The UN General Assembly adopted with majority a draft for a resolution named “Palestinian people’s right of self-determination,” an official said Thursday.

Ambassador Riyad Mansour said 179 countries voted for Palestine’s right of self-determination, in a vote that confirmed that Palestine has the right to have an independent state.

Mansour urged all countries and UN organizations to keep supporting the Palestinian people.

According to the resolution, the UN General Assembly believes negotiations should be resumed as fast as possible.

The decision pointed to a ruling issued by the International Court of Justice on July 9, 2004 about the legal consequences arising from constructing the wall in the West Bank.
