UK-ISRAELI FMS DISCUSS IRAN NUCLEAR TALKS, MID-EAST PEACE PROCESS

Landon, 6 Rabi’ul Awwal 1435/8 January 2014 (MINA) – The United Kingdom (UK) Foreign Secretary William Hague and Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman met in London on Tuesday to take up UK-Israel bilateral relations, Middle East peace negotiations and Iran’s nuclear programme

The two top diplomats reaffirmed their joint support to the US-led Middle East peace process and their common opposition to a nuclear-armed Iran, according to a UK Foreign Office statement released after the meeting.

“We agreed that the sanctions regime should remain robust until Iran agrees to a comprehensive and final settlement addressing all international concerns about its nuclear programme,” Hague and Lieberman said.

They agreed that the current Israeli-Palestinian talks provide a “unique opportunity” to end the conflict once and for all. Anadolu Agency reported as cited by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA)

They also discussed the unprecedented package of security, political and economic support that the European Union would offer to the parties in the event of a final status agreement.

The statement says the two foreign ministers were pleased to note as their bilateral relations were stronger than ever, including in the fields of education, science and technology.

Calling their meeting open and productive, Hague and Lieberman said they assessed current UK-Israel economic ties, which stands at over 5.1 billion pounds in trade and services combined.

After his meeting with Israeli counterpart, British Foreign Secretary Hague wrote from his official Twitter account saying, “Good talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Lieberman today on pushing forward the Peace Process and negotiations with Iran.” (T/P012/P04)
