UAE DELEGATION IN CAIRO FOR ENHANCING BILATERAL TIES

Cairo, 27 Ramadan 1434/4 August 2013 (MINA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy met on Saturday evening(3/8)  with United Arab Emirates (UAE) counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan  in Cairo, where they discussed methods of enhancing bilateral relations in all fields.

“Fahmy welcomed the UAE guest as the first Arab minister to visit Egypt after the coup” that ousted president Mohamed Morsi, APA quoted as a foreign ministry’s spokesman said, monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

During the meeting, Fahmy told UAE counterpart that Egypt is committed to the post-Morsi future roadmap without alienation of any faction that maintains a peaceful methodology and denounces violence.

The UAE foreign minister reaffirmed his country’s support for Egypt in such a sensitive stage the most populous Arab state is going through.

A few days after Morsi’s ouster, the UAE offered a 3-billion-U. S.-dollar aid package to Egypt, including a financial grant of 1 billion dollars and an interest-free loan of 2 billion dollars in form of a deposit in the Central Bank of Egypt.

The pledge was made on July 9 during a meeting between Egypt’s new interim President Adli Mansour and UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in Cairo.

In early January 2013, a well-known Emirati newspaper said that the UAE security forces busted a cell allegedly linked to the MB in Egypt, which had been holding secret meetings to recruit Egyptian expatriates, raising huge amounts of funds and illegally transferring them to the group in Egypt.(T/P03/P04)
