TUNISIAN CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT AL-AQSA MOSQUE

Tunis, 8 Rabi’ul Akhir 1435/8 February 2014 (MINA) – Palestine Supporters Association has launched in Tunisia a campaign in support of al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalemites’ steadfastness under the title “Siraj al-Aqsa campaign”.

The campaign will last 24 days to shed light on Israeli Judaization schemes in occupied Jerusalem.

The Vice-Chairman of the association, Mohamed Bashir Khodri told PIC reporter that the campaign has started on Thursday and will last till the 30th of March, Palestinian Info Center quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

The association will organize events and activities in seven Tunisian cities. Flyers and reports on Israeli Judaization schemes in al-Aqsa Mosque and occupied Jerusalem will be distributed during the events, he explained.

Tunisian children and artists will participate in the campaign to express their total support for al-Aqsa Mosque in face of Israeli schemes targeting the holy city.

A closing ceremony will take place on the 30th of March on the Land Day with the participation of Palestinian senior leaders including deputy head of the Islamic Movement inside the Green Line Kamal al-Khatib in addition to a number of liberated detainees.

Palestine Supporters Association is a Tunisian association established in support of the Palestinian issue; it was established after the Tunisian revolution.

High profile political figures like the leader of Tunisia’s communist party, Hamma Hammami, as well as a member of the Constituent Assembly from the CPR party, Abed Raouf Ayadi, participated in the protest and carried Slogans like “We criminalize normalization with Israel” and “Free Palestine” were chanted during the protest.

Belhaj Amor further added that this day symbolizes the courage of the Palestinian people. “Land Day shows their resistance and how brave they were through defending their lands,” he said.

Rabiaa Hasnaoui, a member of the Supporters of Palestine Association, was sporting a Hamas banner at the protest. Hasnaoui expressed her support for Palestine and the Palestinian people. “It is only through criminalizing normalization with Israel that Palestine will be free,” she stated.

Nour Eddine Arabaoui, a Tunisian who was wounded during the Tunisian revolution, also participated in the protest. “I’m here to show my support for Palestine; we are all Arabs and Muslims and their cause is ours,” he added.

When asked about the difference between celebrating Land Day now and before the revolution, a representative of the press office of the Palestinian embassy in Tunis replied, “We were surprised by the amount of demands on posters and flags, this did not happen before,” he concluded.(T/P02/P04)
