Athens, 14 Rabi’ul Akhir 1436/4 February 2015 (MINA) – New Greek premier Alexis Tsipras called for curbing Israel’s ongoing brutality and war against the Palestinians.

“This brutality cannot be tolerated “, Tsipras said during a rally in Syntagma Square in Athens, organized by leftists, and Palestinian and Arab groups and communities.

“Palestine is in constant war and this war must come to an end,” Tsipras added, The Palestinian Information Center (PIC) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Tuesday.

“When civilians and children are killed on the shores of the same sea that is located on the European continent’s borders, we cannot stand idly by with our hands folded, because if such situation happens today on the other side of the Mediterranean Sea, it can happen tomorrow to us,” he emphasized.

“Only a peaceful solution will create a viable and democratic Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, as stipulated by the UN resolutions,” he said.

Premier Tsipras is a strong supporter of the international solidarity with the Palestinians and has played a significant role in supporting aid convoys to Gaza.

In 2011, he was one of the Greek activists who were supposed to board a Gaza-bound flotilla called the Audacity of Hope, though the convoy never left the mainland because of Israeli pressures on the former Greek government.(T/P008/P3)
