Trump Eyes USD 100 Billion in Tariffs

“China has chosen to harm our farmers and manufacturers,” said Trump.

Washingtton, MINA – President Donald Trump asked the US Trade Representative (USTR) to consider if USD 100 billion of additional tariffs would be appropriate under the Trade Act of 1974.

The move comes in light of “China’s unfair retaliation” after the US threatened to impose USD 50 billion on imports from China, according to KUNA.

“China has chosen to harm our farmers and manufacturers,” said Trump in a statement on Thursday.

The president has since asked Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and other cabinet members to use their authority to implement to protect farmers and agricultural interests.

“Notwithstanding these actions, the United States is still prepared to have discussions in further support of our commitment to achieving free, fair, and reciprocal trade and to protect the technology and intellectual property of American companies and American people,” said Trump.
