Gaza, MINA – Palestinian rights organizations announced the deaths of three detainees from Gaza in Israeli prisons. The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners Society identified the deceased as Tayseer Saeed Al-Abed Sabbaba (60), Khamees Shukri Ashour (44), and Khalil Ahmad Khalil Haniyeh (35), PIC reported.
The deaths occurred over a period from December 2024 to February 2025, with Sabbaba and Haniyeh dying months after their arrests, and Ashour passing away just one day after being detained. All three men were fathers, leaving behind a total of seventeen children.
The joint statement from the rights groups attributes the deaths to what they describe as systematic abuse in Israeli custody, including torture, starvation, denial of medical care, and deliberate mistreatment. They stated these fatalities are part of a rising toll since the start of the current conflict, bringing the documented number of detainee deaths in Israeli prisons since 1967 to 321.
Hamas issued a statement mourning the detainees, condemning their treatment as “barbaric,” and calling for immediate international intervention. The group urged the UN and human rights organizations to investigate and hold Israel accountable, warning of ongoing systematic abuses.

The prisoners’ organizations held Israel fully responsible and criticized the international community for allowing a culture of impunity. They noted that a majority of Palestinian detainees are held without trial under administrative detention or as “unlawful combatants.”[]
