SYARIAH: LAW DEMANDED BY QURAN

Brunei-Muara, 11 Jumadil Akhir 1435/11 April 2014 (MINA) – The Syariah law that the country will be implementing soon is based on the law which is commanded by Allah SWT in the Al-Quran, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam said last night.

“We will soon be going for a (set of) law which is demanded by the Al-Quran. In short, Brunei Darussalam, InsyaAllah, will not stop from praying to Allah SWT for His blessings through the guidance from Al-Quran,” His Majesty said in a titah delivered during the finals of this year’s National Al-Quran reading competition for adults.

The competition, themed “Al-Quran Sumber Keselamatan Dunia dan Akhirat” (Al-Quran, Source of Security in Dunya and Hereafter), was held over three nights at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas, Brunei-Muara, The Brunei Times quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

In the titah, the monarch said that the Quran comprised words from Allah SWT that were revealed through Prophet Muhammad SAW, and cited verse two of Surah Al-Baqarah in the Quran which translates to: “This is the Book of which there is no doubt; a guidance for those conscious of Allah SWT.”

“The verse clearly states that Al-Quran should not be doubted. It (Al-Quran) is real; all its messages and teachings are utmost real. All (Muslims) are obliged to believe and to be followed by us (Muslims). Those who follow will be safe (on the right path) and those who reject it (Al-Quran) will be tormented in the Hereafter.”

The monarch also said reading Al-Quran is considered a zikir (remembrance of Allah), which is afdhal (highly recommended). His Majesty emphasised that Al-Quran should be part of our daily zikir as reading the Al-Quran is another ibadah (act of worship) which is highly encouraged, apart from daily prayers.

His Majesty also noted that the country should not have Muslims who are Al-Quran illiterate as opportunities offered by the government to learn the noble book have always been available and open to everyone.

“I hope all of us will be more committed with Al-Quran by reading it frequently and to hold on to its teachings.” (T/P09/E01).
