Saudi Announces September 11 as Wukuf Day

Makkah, 30 Dzulqa’dah 1437/ 02 September 2016 (MINA)  – The Day of Arafah, known as Wukuf Day, has been set for September 11, and Eid al-Adha will be celebrated the next day.

The Saudi Arabian government set the date after it announced that 1 Dzulhijjah 1437 Hijrah would fall on September 3.

The decision was taken after religious authorities in the kingdom failed to sight the Moon on September 1, Bernama and Saudi media have reported.

This means that 1 Dzulhijjah falls on a Saturday, and Eid al-Adha will take place on Monday, September 12.

Wukuf (grand gathering at Arafah Plain) is the main pillar of the Haj and also the climax of the pilgrimage.
