QABAHA CALLS ON JORDANIAN GOV’T TO SAVE LIVES OF PRISONERS IN ISRAELI JAILS

West Bank, 30 Rajab 1434/9 June 2013 (MINA) – Former Palestinian minister of prisoners’ affairs Wasfi Qabaha appealed to the Jordanian government to intervene to save the lives of its prisoners, who have been on hunger strike for about 40 days.

Qabaha, in a press statement to the Jordanian newspaper Al-Sabil, called on the Jordanian government to have a solid and assertive position towards the issue of its prisoners in Israeli jails, describing its current stance as weak, Palestinian Information Center reported as monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA).

The 50 years old man said that the health status of the Jordanian hunger strikers is very critical while their government is watching without any step to address their issue.

Qabaha who has just been released from Israeli prison last Thursday added that Jordanian prisoner Abdullah Al-Barghouthi was admitted to Afula hospital after his health deteriorated very badly.

The other Jordanian hunger strikers are Hamza Authman, Alaa Hammad, Muneir Mara’ei and Mohamed Al-Remawi.

In another context, Qabaha expected that the Palestinian prisoners would launch a major hunger strike in all Israeli jails next September.

He said there is constant coordination between the prisoners to develop a unified position in order to avoid the drawbacks of the last hunger strike.(T/P03/E1)
