PRINCE AL-FAISAL LEADS CEREMONIAL WASHING OF HOLY KA’BA

       Mecca, 2 Sha’ban 1434/11 June 2013 (MINA) – Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, comes out of the Holy Ka’ba on Monday after washing it on behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

      Those who participated in the ceremony included President for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques Abdulrahman Al-Sudais; his deputy Mohammed Al-Khuzayyem; Mayor of Makkah Dr Osama Al-Bar; a number of ministers; and ambassadors of several Muslim countries, the Saudi Gazette quoted by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

      The House of Allah is washed from inside twice a year, in Muharram and Shaaban, the first and ninth months of the Hijra calendar.

      The wall of the Holy Ka’ba is usually washed with Zamzam water mixed with rose Ta’if and anbar, while the walls diharumkan with musk perfume. and performed the “Tawaf” around the Holy Ka’ba followed by two rak’as, the Bahrain News Agency reports.

      As-Syaibi Nizar, the eldest son of the family caretaker  Al-Haram Mosque Sheikh Abdul Aziz As-Syaibi, mention washing Ka`bah is a tradition that sunnah, but should not be done at a certain time.

      Historically, the Prophet Muhammad PBUH never once washed the Ka`bah in Sha’ban when he returned to Mecca in the event of  “Fathu Mecca”, after he rid it of god statues which are in and around the Ka `bah.

      Since then, the Ka`bah washing into something is sunnah, but no specific time is considered most important to do so.

      “This ritual is a form of respect to the Ka`bah, especially before and after Hajj Umrah. Goal is the most important rather than just cleaning it. At any time laundering, Ka`bah door remains closed. Laundering is nothing more than just cleaning the dust in the walls of the Ka`bah,” said As-Syaibi. (T/P09/E1).
