Penang MMEA Detains Indonesian Boat For Intrusion

George Town, 23 Rabiul Akhir 1437/ February 2016 (MINA) – The Malaysian  Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) in Penang detained four Indonesian fishermen who intruded into Malaysian waters in Pulau Kendi, yesterday afternoon.

Penang Maritime District 2 Enforcement Head, Maritime First Admiral Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan said an enforcement team which
was patrolling at 2 pm yesterday detected a foreign fishing boat that appeared to be moving in a suspicious manner.

“The fishing boat was detained at the location 39 nautical miles south-west of Pulau Kendi and about 36.4 nautical miles from the Malaysia-Indonesia internationl boundary,” he said here today, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) quoted Bernama as reporting.

He said that during inspection on the fishing boat, there were four men comprising the skipper (tekong) aged between 25 to 30 years and they claimed that they did not realise they had encroached into Malaysian waters.

“This reason could not be accepted as they had already encroached far into Malaysian waters. The four fishermen and their boat were detained and taken to the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) in Batu Maung for further action,” he said. (T/R07/R03)
