Bethlehem, MINA – The Palestinian Working Women’s Association for Development held a discussion on the Draft Constitution from a civil society perspective at the Doha Municipality Hall in Bethlehem Governorate, West Bank, Palestine.

The meeting, attended by representatives of official and non-governmental institutions as well as the community, was part of the project “Strengthening the Capacity of Palestinian Civil Society Organizations in the Fields of Democratic Participation, Inclusive Dialogue, and Social Cohesion,” implemented by the Association and funded by the European Union through the French Technical Expertise Agency (Expertise France).

The discussion aimed to empower civil actors, particularly women and youth, and to enhance their role in influencing public policy and decision-making processes. The Al-Quds newspaper reported on Thursday.

The discussion was the first in a series of legal awareness meetings organized by the Association across several governorates in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with the aim of opening a broad community debate on the Palestinian draft constitution and producing practical recommendations to be submitted to the Constitutional Drafting Committee.

In the discussion, key constitutional principles, particularly those related to citizenship and women’s rights, were reviewed and discussed in the context of enhancing public participation in constitution-making, in a way that contributes to expanding public dialogue and influencing the constitutional process.

The meeting witnessed in-depth discussions on a number of draft articles, particularly those related to rights, freedoms, and equality, from a gender perspective.

Participants emphasized the need to economically empower women, ensure equal pay, combat all forms of violence and discrimination in the workplace, and promote the principle of equal citizenship.

The meeting was attended by representatives of official and non-governmental entities, including the Faction Coordination Committee in the Governorate, the Mayor of Doha, the Gender Advisory Committee of the Security Institution, the General Union of Palestinian Women, as well as women’s and development institutions, representatives of local government and security institutions, female candidates for local elections, and council members.[[
