Ramallah, MINA – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with visiting Jordanian King Abdullah II in Ramallah on Monday.

During the meeting, the Jordanian King reiterated his country’s support to the Palestinian people and President Mahmoud Abbas, Presidential Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudainah was quoted by WAFA news agency as saying.

The visit comes in the course of continued consultation and coordination between both Jordanian and Palestinian sides on all levels, he said.

For his part, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki said the visit is of paramount significance as it includes a joint assessment of recent Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

“We evaluated the experience and are preparing for future measures we expect from Israel and from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu,” he added.

The two leaders meet frequently in the Jordanian capital of Amman and other regional capitals, but it was King Abdullah’s first visit to Ramallah since December 2012.

King Abdullah’s visit comes amid rising Jordanian-Israeli tensions after an Israeli security guard shot and killed two Jordanians at the Israeli embassy in Amman last month. (T/RS5/RS1)
