Palestinian Killed in Clashes in East Jerusalem

Jerusalem, 11 Muharram 1438/12 October 2016 (MINA) – A Palestinian man died after being shot during clashes in the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan Tuesday night.

Ali Shyouki, 20, was injured by gunfire and died after ambulances were unable to reach him as roads had been blocked by Israeli forces due to the clashes, claimed the Silwan-based community activist group Wadi Hilweh Information Center.

Videos posted by the group showed large crowds of Palestinian youths holding an impromptu funeral, carrying his body through the streets, and chanting protest slogans.

The clashes that led to Shyouki’s death came as roads around many East Jerusalem neighborhoods were closed off for the Jewish Yom Kippur holiday.
